I live in London Colney and this image is taken from a favourite walk along the river Colne on the way to the fishing lakes. It is amazing to me how much of the natural world is on our doorstep. I have observed deer, kingfishers, damsel and dragonflies and different varieties of fish around the Colney lakes. It is a lovely place to slow down, contemplate and feel at one with the world.

I have created this image using preparatory photographs, standing and looking closely at the colours I was actually seeing and making colour notes before using (as with The Ancient of Trees) chinagraph and pen and Indian ink mark-resist images as a 6 stage colour process. The image was then photoscreen-printed in six individual colours before finalising with acrylic and medium painting.
Created using chinagraph and Indian ink on mark resist sheets which were then copied onto silkscreens.
