I was inspired to create this by watching swifts circling in quick parabolas around our friends’ house in Rossnowlagh. The swifts use their home as a cliff face; nesting under the rafters of their garage. I observed them circling in the twilight.
I created the background using an image created using marbling inks. I enlarged and photocopied part of this image and had it photoprinted onto a silk screen so I could use it as the basis for the sky in a two stage four colour background print. Having been unable to capture the swifts myself photographically, despite much effort, I eventually selected individual images from the Internet which I have arranged to attempt to capture their movement. The images were then photoscreen-printed over the background sky print in a two stage process.
